Chemical Engineering
Overview

B.Tech.Chemical Engineering or Bachelor of Technology in Chemical Engineering is an undergraduate Chemical Engineering course. The duration of the course is four years and it combines the study and application of the principles of chemistry and engineering to solve problems involving the production or use of chemicals, thus building a bridge between science and manufacturing. The degree provides thorough theoretical knowledge in the development and operation of chemical processing plants, as well as the equipment used in these plants. B.Tech. (Chemical Engineering) is a very valuable and career orienting one which opens a lot of jobs both in private and government sectors for the candidates.
Vision
The department is to be a nationally recognized undergraduate chemical engineering program and commitment to outstanding research and student education.
Mission
The department’s mission is to provide a high-quality education in chemical engineering at the undergraduate levels and prepares graduates to assume leadership positions within chemical and other associated industries. Provide service to the state, nation, and world by advancing the profession of chemical engineering.
Prospects
With a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, you will be able to design safe, sustainable, and economical equipment for large-scale chemical or biological manufacturing plants. Chemical engineers frequently work to protect the environment by inventing cleaner technologies or modeling the environmental impacts of chemical processes. Chemical engineers have contributed to major scientific breakthroughs, including the following:
- Chemotherapy with reduced side effects
- Vaccines that ward off epidemics
- Cleaner sources of energy
- Earth-friendly plastics
- Greener chemical processes
- Innovative consumer goods
- Rapid blood-typing
- Medical microdevices
- Rechargeable batteries
- Seawater desalination

The challenging field of chemical engineering combines the disciplines of chemistry, physics and math and is a growing area that encompasses a wide variety of specialties such as petrochemicals and gas, agricultural products, biomedicine, pharmaceuticals, and foods and beverages. The Department has modern laboratory and office many faculty members teach and work in both traditional and emerging areas of chemical engineering.
The Department of Chemical Engineering at RCET is offering B.Tech in Chemical Engineering with Anna University affiliation. The curriculum is well suited for the present day needs of the industrial sectors. The Department has an excellent infrastructure with high quality classrooms, laboratories, auditorium and sophisticated research facilities. The R & D activities at the department are well integrated with its academic programs. High quality research is being carried out by the faculty members in the areas of Environmental engineering, Industrial Biotechnology, Chemical Reaction Engineering, Heat transfer, Mass transfer, Thermodynamics and process control. The department has few MoUs with Industries and research labs.
The Teaching faculties are highly competitive, experienced with professional and academic qualifications. The faculty members have received research grants from various funding agencies and have contributed text books; book chapters several original research articles in high quality peer reviewed journals with high impact factors and citation index. Department has also initiated to establish a professional scientific society, Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers (IIChE) and our students are already members of professional societies like Society for Biological Engineering (SBE).
Chemical Engineering Course Beneficial

- Chemical engineers are some of the highest-paid professionals in the country.
- The petroleum and chemical industries are long-established reserved job-areas for chemical engineers.
- As environmental concerns such as waste reduction and biohazard clean-up are catching the attention of the whole world, chemical engineers will enjoy high demand and wider scope in these areas.
- As the chemical engineers develop everything from fibres to artificial organs for human transplant, the wide scope and broad application of a B.Tech.(Chemical Engineering) degree has and will always continue to provide the degree holders the opportunities to take up work in almost any field of interest such as chemical manufacturing, electronics, healthcare, biotechnology photographic equipment, clothing, pulp and paper, etc.
